Students from Rockport Middle School and Rockport High School can be seen selling produce they have grown themselves at the Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings. As members of the school’s Green Team, these students have been working hard to grow vegetables in the new greenhouse and surrounding gardens. Primarily, the Green Team has been selling leafy greens, such as lettuce and kale, but as more plants mature, visitors can expect to see more beets, radishes, turnips, and carrots. Later in the summer, tomatoes, squash, and peppers will also be available. As part of this venture, students have been learning how to grow various plants, both through soil methods, as well as hydroponics and aeroponics. The Green Team, as the school’s environmental club, is also dedicated to growing using only organic methods. Beyond agriculture, members of Green Team have also had to learn about marketing and other essential business skills.

 

The Rockport Farmer’s Market is on Saturday mornings from 9-1 at Harvey Park. Come down to buy local goods, and don’t forget to check out our Green Team’s stand for fresh, Rockport grown produce.
